Anfield Police Station
From Historic Police Station to Football Fan B&B
The background
Reviving an iconic building with a football fan twist
Originally built as a police station in the late 1800s, this historic building in Anfield was full of characterâand just a stoneâs throw from the famous Anfield Football Stadium. When we first got involved, the building was operating as a 20-bedroom HMO, but the conditions were rough: dark, cramped, and definitely not up to par. The client saw its potential to become a unique B&B catering to football fans and even had a name ready: The Anfield Hotel.

The brief
Reviving an iconic building with a football fan twist
Our task was to convert the building into a 24-bedroom B&B, each with its own en-suite. The client also wanted to introduce a cafĂ© on the ground floor to serve guests, along with a few âCell Experienceâ rooms, keeping the original prison cell layout for a one-of-a-kind stay. The buildingâs layout was a puzzle to say the least, combining various âwingsâ from its past, including the original Sergeantâs House, to create a cohesive, guest-friendly design.

The challenges
Fitting a modern B&B into a quirky historic layout
This project came with plenty of challenges, starting with the survey process. Measuring the space was tough with tenants still on-site, and the buildingâs thick, old walls made restructuring tricky. We had to avoid major demolitions due to cost and historical preservation, which turned the layout planning into a real-life game of Tetris. But we managed to make it work, fitting in all 24 rooms, plus office and utility spaces, and incorporating the buildingâs original features like the basement and courtyard.
Getting planning approval for such a distinctive setup also took some finesse. Our team worked closely with planning authorities, addressing both local and historical considerations to bring the project over the line. In the end, The Anfield Hotel came to life as a unique stay for fans, with modern comforts and the charm and character of this former police station.
